Bang Wan Waterfall is a four-tier jungle cascade at the eastern edge of Kamala in Kathu District, where the village roads run out and the mountain begins.<\/p>\n\n

It is not a large waterfall, and in the dry season, it is barely a waterfall at all. From December through April, the flow can reduce to a trickle over the lower boulders, and in the driest months, it may stop entirely. That is not a failure of the place \u2014 it is the place. Anyone coming in February expecting a dramatic cascade will be disappointed and should be told so before they make the trip.<\/p>\n\n

Small by Design<\/h3>\n\n

What Bang Wan offers is not scale. The falls run across a series of four rock tiers rather than dropping in a single vertical face, and the path is only clearly defined as far as the second level. The upper tiers exist \u2014 the valley continues into the hill behind \u2014 but getting there requires scrambling over wet rock with no marked route, and there is no case for it unless you have come specifically for that.<\/p>\n\n

The setting is the point. The valley is narrow and heavily shaded, and the canopy closes in quickly from the road’s end. By the time the lower cascade comes into view, the light has already dropped, filtered through the trees, making the whole space feel contained and separate from the heat of Kamala below. On a weekday morning in the wet season, with water running properly across the boulders, it earns the trip.<\/p>\n\n

A Local Place<\/h3>\n\n

Bang Wan does not draw tour buses. There is no entry fee, no ticket booth, no vendor selling cold water at the gate. The parking area at the end of the road is small and often occupied by motorbikes belonging to Kamala residents, who use it as a morning exercise loop or a place to sit for half an hour. Visitors from the resort areas occasionally find their way here, but the crowd, such as it is, skews local.<\/p>\n\n

That character \u2014 low-key, unmanaged, without infrastructure \u2014 is the honest description of what this place is. It sits a different category from Kathu Waterfall or the waterfalls inside Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, which charge entry and attract organised visits. Bang Wan is free, close for anyone on the west coast, and left largely to itself.<\/p>\n\n

June to November<\/h3>\n\n

The wet season is when Bang Wan works. From May onward, the monsoon builds flow across all four tiers, and by June or July, the lower cascade is running with enough volume to be audible from the parking area. The trail is slippery \u2014 the rocks beneath the canopy stay wet long after rain \u2014 so footing requires attention, particularly on the way back down.<\/p>\n\n

Swimming is not permitted. Some visitors wade in the shallow pool at the base of the lower tier, but official guidance discourages it, and there is no lifeguard or safety equipment on site.<\/p>\n\n

Come between November and early December if you want the balance of reasonable flow and drier trail conditions. The shoulder either side of peak wet season \u2014 May and October \u2014 is workable but less reliable.<\/p>\n\n

The Practical Truth<\/h3>\n\n

Access is via Bang Wan Road or Khok Yang Road through Kamala village. The Royal Kamala Phuket Condominium is a useful landmark \u2014 the waterfall road runs up from that end of the valley. The final fifty metres from the parking area is a walking path: short, uneven, and slippery when wet. Appropriate footwear matters.<\/p>\n\n

There are no facilities at the site \u2014 no toilets, no food, no drinking water. Bring what you need. Entry is free.<\/p>\n\n

The walk from the car to the lower cascade takes under ten minutes. The full visit, including time at the falls, lasts 30 to 60 minutes for most people. It is not a half-day excursion.<\/p>\n\n

Kamala’s Back Road<\/h3>\n\n

Bang Wan is in Kathu District, at the eastern boundary of Kamala subdistrict, approximately 4 kilometres from Kamala Beach. It is one of the few places on the west coast where the transition from village to forested hill happens quickly and on foot \u2014 most of the coastal strip’s green areas are either behind resort fences or require a drive north toward Thalang.<\/p>\n\n

For anyone staying in Kamala for more than a few days, it is the kind of place that gets visited once and then remembered as available. That is not a diminishment \u2014 it is the accurate description of what a neighbourhood waterfall is for.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
