Shopping in Phuket serves several different purposes. Visitors may need practical supplies during a stay, an indoor option during heavy rain, branded retail and electronics, home-improvement products, or gifts connected to the island. The most useful shopping area depends on what needs to be bought.

Central Phuket: the island’s largest shopping district

Central Phuket in Wichit is a connected retail district built around the Festival and Floresta wings. Thai Watsadu and BnB Home extend the area into homeware, hardware, building supplies and household purchases.

Festival covers mainstream retail, electronics, sports, books, cinema, food and general services. Floresta carries more premium brands, a large department store, restaurants and visitor attractions. Together they provide the widest concentration of retail on the island.

Patong and the west coast

Patong is the most convenient large shopping area for visitors staying near the island’s busiest resort centre. Jungceylon combines retail, food, entertainment and everyday services behind the beach area, while the surrounding streets contain markets, smaller centres and visitor-focused shops.

Big C Extra Patong is useful for groceries, Thai snacks, toiletries, clothing and household basics. Central Patong, directly opposite Jungceylon, is smaller and quicker to navigate, with fashion, beauty, gifts, food and department-store shopping.

Bang Tao, Cherng Talay and northern shopping

Porto de Phuket and nearby Boat Avenue form an open-air shopping, dining and service area serving Bang Tao, Laguna and Cherng Talay. The area contains supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, lifestyle shops and community services rather than one conventional enclosed mall.

Robinson Lifestyle Thalang provides another practical option for northern Phuket. It can reduce the need to cross the island for routine shopping.

Old Town, independent shops and local products

Phuket Old Town is the strongest shopping area when the setting and the island’s cultural identity form part of the visit. Thalang, Dibuk, Krabi and Phang Nga roads contain long-established businesses, fabric shops, food producers, small galleries, clothing, crafts, photography, cafés and contemporary brands operating from restored shophouses.

Not everything sold in the heritage district is locally made. Mass-produced souvenirs sit beside genuine Phuket products, so maker information, materials and place of production are more useful than the shop’s address alone.

Supermarkets and everyday essentials

Big C, Lotus’s, Tops, Villa Market and Makro serve different needs. Big C and Lotus’s are practical for everyday Thai groceries. Tops and Villa Market generally carry more imported products, while Makro is useful for bulk purchases but often uses larger pack sizes.

Home and long-stay shopping

Phuket has several large home centres selling furniture, appliances, lighting, bathroom equipment, tools and garden products. HomePro Phuket Cherng Talay is convenient for the north-west coast and can be combined with Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket.

What Phuket is useful for buying

• Everyday and travel needs: pharmacy items, sunscreen, electronics, luggage, clothing basics, imported food and household supplies.
• Home and property needs: tools, fittings, appliances, furniture, garden and building products.
• Food gifts: local snacks, sauces, curry pastes, sweets and selected preserved products.
• Local design and craft: textiles, ceramics, prints, photography, jewellery and small-batch products where the maker or origin can be identified.
• Wet-weather shopping: Central Phuket or Jungceylon when covered parking, food and several retail categories are useful in one place.
