Layan Beach sits in Cherng Talay on Phuket’s west coast. It is the gentle, protected end of Bang Tao with a relaxed local feel and soft sand along Sirinat National Park.
Overview
The beach is about one kilometre long, lightly developed, and bordered by Casuarina trees—the northern end curves into a calm lagoon behind Koh Kala. The southern stretch opens directly into Bang Tao’s longer shoreline.
Location and character
Access is via Route 4030 through Cherng Talay in Thalang District. Sand is golden and medium-grain with a gradual seabed slope that stays shallow for many meters. The view is open to the Andaman Sea with a low-rise coastline behind.
Swimming and safety
From November to April, the water is flat and clear, ideal for families and beginners. The small island protects from the waves.
During the monsoon, red flags may fly after storms, though conditions are usually calmer here than on open beaches. Occasional jellyfish appear after weather changes.
Access and transport
Parking is available at the National Park entrance and along the southern beachfront roads. Walking time to the sand is under one minute.
No direct public bus reaches the beach. The Phuket Smart Bus stops near Laguna, followed by a short taxi transfer.
Facilities and atmosphere
Toilets and showers are at the park ranger area. A few small food stalls operate in high season, and loungers are available in limited sections near resorts.
Most of the beach stays quiet and clean, though plastic can wash up along the northern shoreline depending on tides.
Who Layan Beach is for
Families with young children, couples seeking low noise, and visitors who enjoy calm water activities like kayaking and SUP.
It is not a nightlife or beach club scene, except near the southern edge, where Bang Tao begins.
Nearby beaches
To the north, Banana Beach and Nai Thon are short drives away and offer small coves and hill scenery.
To the south, Bang Tao Beach continues for several kilometres with more hotels, restaurants, and beach clubs.
