Nai Harn Beach Phuket

Overview

Nai Harn Beach is located in Rawai Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, at the southwest tip of Phuket Island facing the Andaman Sea. The beach is fully public and bordered by forested hills and headlands. Development behind the beach is limited due to land ownership by Nai Harn Monastery.

North End (Ao Sane Side)

The northern end curves toward Ao Sane and features rocky edges near the headland. This area is sometimes used for snorkeling during calm conditions. The seabed becomes deeper more quickly near the rocks.

Central Bay

The central section has the widest sandy area and the most stable swimming conditions in high season. The seabed here is sandy with a gradual slope and no rocks in the main swimming zone. Lifeguard stations are positioned along this section.

South End (Ya Nui Direction)

The southern end approaches the headland toward Ya Nui Beach. Water depth increases faster here, and waves can be stronger during monsoon months. Anchored yachts are sometimes visible offshore during high season.

Lifeguards are stationed on the beach and use a red and yellow flag system. Rip currents and strong waves are common during the southwest monsoon from May to October. Swimming during red-flag conditions is dangerous, and incidents have occurred involving tourists ignoring warnings.

Seasonality

From November to April, the sea is typically calm, clear, and suitable for swimming and body surfing. From May to October, wave height and currents increase significantly, creating surf conditions but raising safety risks. Seasonal jellyfish warnings are issued, and lifeguards carry vinegar for stings.

Paid toilets and showers are available at nearby restaurants and small shops behind the tree line. Food and drinks are sold by casual stalls and local eateries. Sun loungers and umbrellas are limited to a few rows and do not dominate the beach. The beach is consistently described as clean.

The beach is municipally managed with restrictions on permanent structures. Commercial activity is controlled, and large-scale beachfront development is prohibited. Visitors are expected to respect safety flags and designated swimming areas.
