Phuket’s coastline changes noticeably with the tide. Beaches can become much wider at low tide, rocks and reef areas may appear, while high tide can bring the sea much closer to beachfront roads, restaurants and resorts.
The tide tables below show predicted tide levels for Ko Taphao Noi, the official reference station used for Phuket by the Hydrographic Department, Royal Thai Navy.
Phuket normally experiences two high tides and two low tides each day, although the timing and height vary throughout the month. The difference between high and low water can reach approximately 2.5–2.6 metres during stronger spring-tide periods.

Why Phuket’s tides vary
Tides are mainly caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. Around new moon and full moon, their combined influence produces larger tidal ranges known as spring tides. Around the first and third quarter moon, the difference between high and low tide is generally smaller; these are known as neap tides.
This means Phuket’s beaches can look very different depending not only on the time of day, but also on the date.

Tide predictions are not weather or sea-safety forecasts. Waves, wind, currents, storms and local coastal conditions can differ significantly from predicted tidal levels.
