Kamala sits on Phuket’s west coast between Patong and Surin. It combines a substantial beach, an established local village and a broad range of accommodation without the intensity of Phuket’s largest resort centres.

Beach conditions change considerably by season. The calmer high-season months are generally better for swimming, while rough seas, currents and red flags must be taken seriously during the southwest monsoon.
The beachfront is generally quieter than Patong and has restaurants and informal places to stop along parts of the bay.
Where Kamala Sits on the Map
Kamala lies north of Patong and south of Surin on Phuket’s central west coast.
This position gives visitors practical access south toward Patong and north toward Surin, Bang Tao and Laguna. Phuket International Airport is farther north, while Phuket Old Town lies across the island to the southeast.
Kamala is therefore a useful base for visitors concentrating on Phuket’s west coast, but journeys across the island can still take time because of hills, traffic and limited direct roads.
Beachfront, Village and Hillside Areas

Beachfront and near-beach properties offer the easiest access to the sand. Village-centre accommodation is convenient for restaurants, markets and daily services. Hillside properties may offer views and privacy but often require transport and may involve steep roads.

Visitors seeking a much larger restaurant and nightlife selection can travel south to Patong or north toward Surin and Bang Tao and Laguna.

Kamala is home to Phuket FantaSea and Carnival Magic, two large evening entertainment attractions located inland from the beach.
The area also includes the Tsunami Memorial Park and local markets. Kamala’s normal evening atmosphere is otherwise relatively subdued compared with Patong.
Getting Around
The beach and central village are reasonably walkable when accommodation is located nearby.
Transport becomes important for hillside properties, the northern end of the bay and journeys to neighbouring areas. Taxis and app-based transport are available, but repeated trips can become expensive.
Motorbike users should be cautious on the steep and winding coastal roads toward Patong and Surin, particularly in rain or after dark.
