Tri Trang Beach Phuket

Tri Trang Beach Phuket is a sheltered public beach south of Patong. It faces a protected bay with very shallow water, minimal waves year-round, and swimming that depends heavily on tide levels. Updated 14/12/2025

Overview

Tri Trang Beach is located in Kathu District, within the Patong municipality, south of Patong Beach. The beach sits in a north-facing bay protected by headlands, resulting in unusually calm sea conditions even during the monsoon season.

Central Shallow Bay

The central section has fine light-colored sand mixed with coral fragments near the waterline. The seabed is extremely shallow, and at low tide, large areas of rock and coral flats are exposed, limiting swimming.

Eastern Rocky End

The eastern end has larger rocks and exposed coral. At high tide, shallow snorkeling is possible near the rocks. Water shoes are recommended due to sharp coral and stones.

Western End (Resort Side)

Resorts and beach facilities border the western section. Sand coverage is more consistent here, but depth remains shallow for a long distance offshore.

Safety

There are no permanent lifeguards stationed at Tri Trang Beach. Rip currents are rare in the protected bay, but cuts through coral and rocks are common. Swimming is safest at high tide.

Seasonality

From November to April, water clarity is usually higher, though depth remains shallow. From May to October, the beach remains calm compared to other west coast beaches, making it popular during the monsoon season.

Facilities & Services

Facilities are limited and mostly tied to nearby resorts and restaurants. Paid showers and toilets are available for customers. Sun loungers are available in managed sections, usually linked to food or drink purchase.

Rules & Conservation

Tri Trang Beach is a public beach with maintained access through resort roads. Visitors should avoid walking on exposed coral flats and should not remove coral or marine life.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, with fewer crowds than Patong. The beach attracts families, monsoon-season swimmers, and visitors seeking calm water rather than nightlife.
